CoinBase bans the account of free speech website Gab
CoinBase, the largest exchange in North America has banned the account of free speech website Gab. The reason for the ban is not clear, although the Reddit community believes it was due to Gab’s free speech policy.
Gab is an online social network. It is an alternative to Twitter with the character limit of 300 characters. Gab promotes itself as the advocate of free speech. Due to its no rules policy against censorship, Gab has become a popular social network with White Supremacist and the alt-right.
The account of Gab was banned on Sunday morning.
The banning of account has sparked a debate among the cryptocurrency community. One part of the community supports Gab stating that CoinBase is acting against the values Bitcoin stood for. The other group believes that some information should be blocked for a general well being of the society.
This is not the first time Gab has come under fire. In 2016, Apple app store denied the app of the social network and in August 2017, Google removed Gab app from Google Play Store. In September 2017, a petition was filed to the social network’s domain registrar to block the domain.
