Gab all set to Fork Brave and create its new browser with Bitcoin Lightning Network Integration

Andrew Torba, co-creator of Gab, recently announced plans to develop a new browser. Google and Mozilla will not host Gab’s upcoming ‘comments engine’ browser extension. This could be a plausible reason for Gab’s sudden plan of coming up with a browser of its own. Gab’s new web browser will be a forked version of the open-source Brave browser.

Gab’s Dissenter plug-in has also been in the news for all the wrong reasons as it is believed that the free speech social network promotes violence, hate speech, and discrimination. The company was recently blocked on Chrome and Firefox web store on the grounds of violating acceptable use policy.

Following the ban, the Gab team questioned the decision through a series of tweets, while maintaining that the company’s drive of “zero tolerance policy for threats or incitement to violence.”

Gab  supported its extension by arguing that it helped people “exercise their First Amendment rights online.”

While talking about the new browser, Torba specified that the Dissenter web browser will not include the “parts of Brave that weren’t needed,” like the BAT token, but will keep “the best parts.”

According to news reports, the new browser will have “Dissenter, ad blocking, and other privacy tools built-in, along with the guarantee of free speech.” Torba had previously characterized BAT as being “more empowering for advertisers than users.”

Andrew Torba in support of his browser said,” Creating a browser that is outside of the control of Silicon Valley companies, Brave included, is inspiring to us and our users.”

Cryptocurrency’s key role in Gab’s functioning must not be overlooked. At a time when payment gateways like PayPal, Stripe, and Square avoided Gab, the company is able to integrate Bitcoin without anyone’s permission.

“We are working on [Lightning Network] integration with a very influential [Lightning Network] company, but don’t have any public news on that just yet,” said Torba. The planned fork will focus on replacing Brave’s BAT (Basic Attention Token) with Bitcoin Lightning Network integration.

Gab will continue to use BTCPay Server to process crypto payments, even though the company has started accepting credit-card payments through 2nd Amendment Processing.
