Litecoin Adoption: Lightning Network Wallet Zap Desktop now Supports LTC

Jack Mallers, the creator of open source lightning wallet Zap announced the release of the new Beta 0.3.0 Desktop version on Friday. The new version supports Litecoin (LTC).

Zap wallet which prides itself for having a responsive design implementation was first launched in August last year. Zap focuses on providing a clean interface to handle the load from the lightning network. The lightning network is still in its early stages and yet products like the Zap wallet allows users to send payments instantly across the world.

The latest version of the Zap wallet has many upgrades and features, one of such major upgrade is the addition of Litecoin support. Users will now be able to connect to the Litecoin lightning node using the Zap wallet.

Jack said:

“Zap now supports connecting to remote Litecoin Lightning nodes. Although the Lightning Network was conceptualized with scaling Bitcoin in mind while adding some privacy enhancements, it is a protocol designed agnostic to the underlying blockchain.

Litecoin has been in the forefront in the development of the Lightning network and has served as a test bed for the Bitcoin network. With atomic swaps, it might even be easier to onramp onto the lightning network using Litecoin according to Charlie Lee.

Jack had previously mentioned about Litecoin being added to Zap in a thread by Charlie Lee who was talking about cross chain atomic swaps.

He further says:

“The Litecoin dev team is currently working on implementing neutrino (light client) support within LTCD, so that one day users can launch their wallet on the Bitcoin blockchain, log out, and then switch chains to Litecoin. This is not supported yet, but potentially soon. For now you can simply connect to a remote Litecoin LND node to use Litecoin + Zap if you’d like.”

Armin Van Bitcoin highlights some of the main features of version 0.3.0:

Blockmanity’s Take

The lightning network may play a critical role in the scaling of transactions in the Bitcoin and Litecoin networks. Even though we are still in the early days of this technology, testing and adoption of the lightning network are ongoing. The Bitcoin lightning network has breached the 500 BTC capacity and has over 15,000 channels set up.
