Hola is a free VPN service with over 8 Million installs and a 4.9 rating, which is said to have been compromised for over 5 hours, so users who have installed the Hola extension and have used MyEtherWallet in the past 24 hours are urged to transfer funds elsewhere.
MyEtherWallet Tweeted:
When asked by a user whether this was caused by MyEtherWallet, they responded saying that this was because of the Hola extension. It is not the first time that such an attack is witnessed by them, back in February around 216 Eth was stolen in a DNS hack where a couple of DNS servers were hacked and users were redirected to a phishing website.
MyEtherWallet was split due to a conflict of interest among the founders into another similar service called MyCryptoWallet. This comes to light after the news that over $12 Million was stolen from the decentralized exchange Bancor. This goes to show that the Crypto industry still has a lot of room to mature in terms of security and custody before mainstream adoption.
