Pundi X Releases XPhone, makes World’s First Blockchain Phone Call

The Pundi X (NPXS) project has been making major strides in the Blockchain World. In early 2018, They introduced the XPOS, the blockchain based point of sale (POS) system that will make cryptocurrency payments easier for both users and merchants.

They are now on their way to disrupt the telecommunications industry. On day-2 of XBlockchain Summit at the Inaya Putri, Bali, the Pundi X team introduced the world’s first blockchain phone call on their latest device titled the XPhone. The Xphone runs on the Function X blockchain (also invented by Pundi X) and does not require a centralized mobile carrier. Instead, they’ve developed their own chain which will solve many of the issues being faced by traditional blockchains. Issues like scalability, ability to publish DApps and achieving true decentralization will be addressed. This will truly revolutionize data transmission and bring about a truly decentralised internet.

The team explains Function X as not just a public chain:

Function X is a total decentralized solution consisting of five essential components: Function X OS, Function X Blockchain, Function X IPFX, FXTP Protocol, and the Function X Docker. All five have one sole purpose which is to decentralize all apps, website, communications and data.

The Function X OS is based off the Android OS 9.0 to make it compatible with the Android apps. This makes it very easy for developers to create DApps and users to transition to the Function X platform with Android phones dominating the world market. Every device will have its own address and private key, which will link to other devices/nodes in the Function X ecosystem.

Pitt Haung, CTO at Pundi X says “today we’ve delivered proof of a working concept; one that upends centralized communications and adds new dimensions to blockchain technology.”

The XPhone OS is currently available to phone manufacturers for testing and will be available on functionx.io from October 15th. The Function X blockchain, FXTP, IPFS, and XPhone will be officially launched in Q2 2019.

Blockmanity’s Take

With governments across the world being accused of phone tapping citizen, blockchain based phone-calls will assure the privacy for everyone. If Pundi X is able to successfully launch their Xphone, they could very easily start the Smart Phone 2.0 Revolution.
