Recap of Key announcements made at Invest: Asia 2019 Singapore
Coindesk’s flagship event for Asia “Invest: Asia 2019” concluded last week on 12th September. The event was jointly hosted by Coindesk, and TechXLR8, an event series with a focus on emerging technologies. The event took place between 11th – 12th September at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
The event was a great success with the presence of hundreds of companies, investors, and tech influencers. According to the organizers, the event saw 7000+ people attending the conference in 2 days.
Blockchain technology was the highlight at the Invest: Asia 2019. Blockchain companies from all over Asia and the globe were present at the event. Due to the massive scale of the event, Invest: Asia 2019 was divided into two parts – the Conference, and the Exhibition area.
The conference had an impressive speaker lineup including well-known cryptocurrency influencers. Some of the speakers who took to the stage included, Jeremy Allaire – Founder & CEO of Circle, Bobby Lee – Man behind the first cryptocurrency exchange in China, Wei Zhou – CFO of Binance, Nick White – Co-Founder of Harmony etc.
While, on the other hand, the exhibition center saw booths from major blockchain companies. Some of the companies showcasing their booth were Poloniex, Kyber Network, OKEx, eToro, Coindesk, etc. The exhibition center allowed companies to create a fun environment to connect with their customers.
As one of the major exchanges of the world and a market leader in India, CoinDCX was ably represented at the conference. CoinDCX’s CEO Mr. Sumit Gupta attended the conference and shared his insights with leading technologists, founders of blockchain enterprises, regulators, and other renowned guests. We got to have a quick chat with its CEO, Mr. Sumit Gupta. We asked him about his plans, to which he said,
“We are looking for strategic investment opportunities and partnerships to boost global trade. When we join hands, we grow. manifold”
Apart from learning about the progress of the industry, attendees of Invest: Asia 2019 were some of the first people to hear major industry announcements.
Major Announcements at Invest: Asia 2019
As a major blockchain event taking place in Asia, Invest: Asia saw some big announcements. The key announcements made at the event were,
- Bobby Lee’s New Cryptocurrency hardware wallet
Bobby Lee announced his new venture, a hardware wallet called Ballet. Ballet is a cold wallet that accepts Bitcoin and fourteen other altcoins. Bobby Lee was the man behind China’s first cryptocurrency exchange. He is a well-known cryptocurrency influencer and is also the brother of Charlie Lee, the creator of Litecoin.
- Binance launches USD backed stablecoin
World’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, announced the launch of a new USD backed stable coin called BUSD. The token is in partnership with Paxos and will be tradeable from this week.
- Coinbase hinted at an IEO platform
Coinbase’s head of Institutional sales, Kayvon Pirestan, hinted that Coinbase may soon launch an IEO platform. The launchpad will be similar to existing platforms such as Binance Launchpad, OKEx Jumpstart, etc.
- Marshall Island’s plan for a National Cryptocurrency
The Marshall Islands announced plans to launch a government-backed cryptocurrency. The new token is called Marshallese sovereign (SOV). The token will be introduced to the public via a pre-sale. Moreover, the pre-sale will be open for investors all over the world to take part.
That’s not all, each day after the conference various meetups and private invite-only parties took place across Singapore. Fun, informative and inspiring, this year’s Invest: Asia was certainly one to remember.
The next event in the Coindesk’s Invest Series will take place in New York on November 12th, 2019. Sumit added,
