Wikipedia has been accepting Bitcoin for several years but this will be the first time in the foundations’ history they will be accepting Bitcoin Cash. Due to the global audience of Wikipedia, the Wikimedia foundation shifted to Bitcoin so that everyone can donate equally.
“Our donors have shown an increased interest for different cryptocurrencies, so accepting Bitcoin Cash was a natural next step,” said Pats Pena, Director of Payments and Operations, Wikimedia Foundation. “We accept donations globally, and we strive to provide a large variety of donation options. It’s very important that we can get international donations processed in ways that are efficient and cost-effective.”
Wikimedia Foundation is one of the largest non-profit in the world. The foundation generates more than $50 million yearly in donations to run Wikipedia. which is one of the largest encyclopedia in the world.
