Blockmanity’s list of top 10 Women in blockchain

This women’s day, we at Blockmanity celebrate by listing out the top 10 women who have played a pivotal role in shaping the Blockchain industry.

1) Amanda Gutterman (CMO at ConsenSys): @amandagutterman

Amanda Gutterman is Chief Marketing Officer at ConsenSys, the largest and fastest growing blockchain company focused on building the Ethereum ecosystem. Amanda is also a creator of Ethereal, a technology event series including a Summit that has been dubbed the “SXSW of blockchain”.

In 2016, Forbes Magazine listed Amanda on its 30 Under 30 in Media list, and Inc. Magazine as one of 30 Under 30 Movers and Shakers in the Content Industry.

Before ConsenSys, Amanda cofounded Slant, a “decentralized” media platform where creators took home 70% of ad revenue on their publications. The micropayment-based model led her to discover blockchain and Ethereum, which unlock enormous potential in media and beyond. She also served as Special Projects Editor at The Huffington Post, working closely with Editor-in-Chief Arianna Huffington, and worked at The New Yorker.

Amanda grew up in Washington, D.C. and is a graduate of Columbia University, Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Her work has been cited by Business Insider, Digiday, Tech Crunch, The New York Times, Politico, and more. She currently lives in Brooklyn.

2) Elizabeth Stark (Co-founder and CEO of Lightning Labs):@starkness

Elizabeth Stark is co-founder and CEO of Lightning, where she is building a programmable financial layer for the internet through fast, scalable blockchain transactions. Further, she is an advisor at Comma.ai, a startup building autonomous driving technology, and a fellow at Coin Center, the leading digital currency policy organization. Stark previously taught at Stanford and Yale University about the future of the internet, and was a visiting fellow at Yale’s Information Society Project. Elizabeth played an instrumental role in the Internet freedom effort that defeated SOPA/PIPA, engaging 18 million people worldwide. She has advised numerous decentralized technology and blockchain startups and was an entrepreneur-in-residence at Stanford StartX. Stark holds a J.D. from Harvard.

3) Galia Benartzi (Founder Bencor Protocol): @galiabenartzi

Galia Benartzi is a serial technology entrepreneur, currently working on a cryptocurrency protocol called Bancor, which is a standard for creation of Smart Tokens. Bancor has been called one of the most successful ICO, raising $153 Million in less than 3 Hours. She has been building software startups since 2005 when she graduated college. She has moved from Silicon Valley to Tel Aviv, to support the local startup ecosystem. She is currently also a Venture Partner in Founders Fund.

4) Kathleen Breitman (co-founder of Tezos): @breitwoman

Kathleen Breitman is the CEO of Tezos, a blockchain-based smart contract platform with an on-chain governance mechanism to coordinate and push upgrades to its network. Prior to Tezos, Kathleen was a senior strategy associate for R3, a blockchain consortium of more than 70 financial firms. She has also worked at Accenture, Bridgewater Associates, and the Wall Street Journal. She holds a degree from Cornell University.

5) Elizabeth McCauley (Bitcoin Foundation): @etmccauley

If there is an award for a Woman with the most number of Roles, Elizabeth would surely win it. Elizabeth is a full-time mother. Apart from that, Elizabeth also handles Global Business Development for Coinsecure, One of India’s leading exchanges. She also handles the business development of Bridge21. She currently serves on the Boards of the Bitcoin Foundation and Code to Inspire. She previously worked for BitPay, Bitcoin Magazine, and is a US Member of Congress.

6) Preethi Kasireedy (Founder and CEO at Trustory): @iam_preethi

Preethi Kasireddy, a blockchain engineer, who breathes and talks Blockchain (sometimes even writes on it). She has an interesting alumn Coinbase, Andreessen Horowitz and Goldman Sachs. She has been a strong advocator of Blockchain technology. She is currently the founder of TruStory a blockchain startup.

7) Laura Shin (Crypto Journalist/Podcast producer): @laurashin

She is an independent journalist covering crypto assets (digital assets), Bitcoin, Ethereum, ICOs, tokens); host of the podcasts Unchained: Big Ideas From the Worlds of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency (http://www.unchainedpodcast.co/) and Unconfirmed: Insights and Analysis From the Top Minds in Crypto. (http://www.unconfirmedpodcast.com/).

She won the 2016 Blockchain Award for Most Insightful Journalist.
Previously, She was a Forbes senior editor focusing on crypto.
She often speaks at conferences or webcasts or moderate panels and conferences on the subjects of blockchain, digital currencies/cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin, Ethereum, ICOs, crypto assets, fintech, investing, money, personal finance, career, productivity, freelancing, earning more money/negotiating, journalism, writing and reporting.

8) Kavita Gupta (Founding Managing Partner at ConsenSys): @KavitaGupta19

Kavita is a recipient of UN social finance innovator award in 2015 for being an integral part of the founding green bond team at The World Bank. At ConsenSys, Kavita heads the unique VC-hedge fund, investing in next-generation blockchain technologies revolutionizing our current systems. Previously she has been running over $250M fund aligned with UN SDGs infusing capital in technologies providing first time or low-cost access around the world. She has set up innovative investment funds across East Africa, Middle East, South Asia and recently in the US for past 16 years through World Bank, IFC, McKinsey and The Schmidt Family office. She founded and headed World Bank’s first innovation fund in 2010. She is on the board and advisor of various accelerators and foundations across the world like google accelerator social track, MIT Solve (Sr. Advisor), Vatican’s Right Now foundation for impact investments, Mandela foundation etc. She is an MIT and Media lab alum.

9) Amber Baldet – Executive director and blockchain program lead, J.P. Morgan: @AmberBaldet

Popularly known as the “The Blockchain Banker” Baldet is here to smash any preconceptions you might have had about the banking industry. She leads the team at J.P. Morgan that’s developing Quorum, one of the most exciting corporate blockchain projects around. The open-source code is based on Ethereum, and is designed to cater to big business’s needs — like scale, performance, and privacy. A regular at hacker conferences, Baldet handily bridges the divide between Wall Street and the crypto set.

10) Caitlin Longformer chairman & president at Symbiont.io @CaitlinLong_

Caitlin Long is former chairman and president of enterprise blockchain company, Symbiont. She has been active in bitcoin since 2012 and blockchain since 2014. Caitlin previously spent 22 years on Wall Street in senior roles, working for Morgan Stanley (2007-2016), Credit Suisse (1997-2007) and Salomon Brothers (1994-1997). During her Wall Street career, she started and ran three new businesses, was a top-ranked equity research analyst for the life insurance sector, and worked directly for the co-CEOs on a business restructuring in Zurich.

MarketsMedia awarded Caitlin its 2016 Women in Finance Award for Excellence in Blockchain, and Institutional Investor named Caitlin to its list of the most influential people in pensions during her final 3 years on Wall Street. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School (JD, 1994), the Kennedy School of Government (MPP, 1994) and the University of Wyoming (BA, 1990).
