Plattsburgh, known for cheapest electricity in the whole of US has passed a bill that bans mining operations for next one and a half year.
The new bill only affects the new miners. Old mining companies and the individual can continue to mine so.
The new bill is not to halt mining operations. but to rather understand the tax and fee structure charged mining operation.
Plattsburgh – a relatively small city with 20,000 population is known for its cheap electricity. Due to Bitcoin’s price boom, many mining operations sprang up in Plattsburgh in 2017. This increased Plattsburgh electricity usage significantly.
The current Bitcoin mining operation consumes as much as 10% of the entire population’s electricity usage.
