A new Ethereum chain-split?! Ethereum Core dev, Lane Retting, says Governance is failing

Recently Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, gave an interview in which he talked about the progress Ethereum’s ProgPOW has made and how the new ETH 2.x is being audited. If true this is huge news, but Ethereum Core dev Lane Retting, says otherwise.

Lane Retting took to Twitter to announce the internal problems in the Ethereum team. According to him, the core dev team is divided between ETH 1.x and ETH 2.x. Moreover, the claims of progress being made on ProgPOW and ongoing audit is completely false.

According to Lane, the Ethereum network has become a centralized mess without a lack of proper governance. Devs are not able to push updates as there is a lack of proper push from the “authorities”. One of the biggest hurdles with Ethereum is that its not proper centralized and neither proper decentralized. And this is creating problems as Ethereum grows.

The governance is not the only trouble with Ethereum. Recently, Vitalik Buterin himself admitted to Laura Shin, that Ethereum has started to lose its lead, to new blockchains. Even DApps wise Ethereum is at number 3rd position with both Tron and EOS leading the race.

Blockmanity’s Take

Coming back to the real questions, can Ethereum undergo another chain split? It is quite possible if Ethereum’s governance issue isn’t solved. Pressure from developers, miners, and other blockchains is going to further push towards a chain split.
