Early in March 2018, Reddit the popular social media removed Bitcoin payment as an option to purchase Reddit Gold, the premium ad-free version of the website. The reason for Bitcoin-based payment’s removal was due to Bitcoin high transaction fee and some problems caused by CoinBase APIs.
Now with Bitcoin transaction fee reduced ( through the implementation of SegWit and Lightning Network ) and CoinBase improving its APIs, Reddit is once again launching BiBitcoin-based payment. And moreover, with the new launch, Reddit is introducing payment options by both Ethereum and Litecoin in addition to Bitcoin.
Although the timelines for the new payment hasn’t been disclosed, Reddit’s CTO Christopher Slowe has mentioned that the team is working round the clock to bring back Cryptocurrency based payments. We will update you as soon as we get more information.
