EOS frontend wrapper, EOSJS, gets major update – version 20.0.0 beta released

EOSJS, the popular community-driven frontend wrapper for EOS, got a major update. The beta version of the update has been released and is known as the Ver 2.0.0. The update was released on October 4th and was announced on their Medium post.

The major change included in this version is the introduction of “Signature Providers“. Signature Provider eliminates the use of handling the Security Key from the frontend which allows for greater security. Moreover, it eliminates the security burden developers have to go through to handle users private keys.

The EOSJS Ver 2.0.0 is released in beta, to ensure it’s community tested before a full-fledged stable release. Apart from Signature Provider, the Ver 2.0.0 releases host of new features such as,

  1. Strict typing using Typescript
  2. Error handling improvements
  3. Simplified APIs
  4. Fewer dependencies

The future

This update is an important update. Once the stable version is released, this update will make existing popular wallets to act as key storage for EOS tokens. That means users won’t have to generate a new private key to interact with new DApps. And as for developers, this update reduces the burden of handling security key.

The wrapper’s notes and documentation have been updated to encourage developers to shift to the new version.
