Ethereum’s Constantinople upgrade date has been finalized. The blockchain is set to undergo a major upgrade at block number 7,280,000 scheduled for Feb 28th.
Previously scheduled for Feb 25th, the long-awaited hard fork will make changes to the Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), which will improve core protocol specifications, client APIs, and contract standards. The launch was postponed after a major security flaw was discovered. The new code is audited by a third party audit firm.
The upgrade is titled Constantinople and St. Petersburg with previous updates being Spurious Dragon and Byzantium.
The network upgrade will improve the underlying Ethereum protocol. The transition is especially difficult with the decentralized nature of Ethereum and Blockchain in general. Before the upgrades go live, test networks (Ropsten) are being upgraded to test the changes.
Scalability is a major concern for the networks and Ethererum addressing that concern is a huge step. With Etherum regaining the 2nd spot, let’s hope they fulfill their promises.
