REQ partners with Wikimedia, sets up WooCommerce Plugin
Request Network has partnered with the Wikimedia Foundation as well as set up a WooCommerce Plugin. These developments were a result of their collaboration of their community as well.
Wikimedia Partnership
According to the announcement,
As a true leader in innovation through its Wikipedia platform, globally known for being a free and decentralized online encyclopedia and a top-ten internet property, the Wikimedia Foundation reinforces its leading status by widely integrating blockchain technology on its platform. The Wikimedia Foundation is partnering with the Request Network Foundation for this technological breakthrough. The first concrete application of this partnership will be the integration of cryptocurrency donations. The french chapter of the worldwide Wikimedia Foundation will be the first to use this tool.
The focus of this partnership is to provide a cryptocurrency donation management system to Wikimedia. As we have seen in the WikiLeaks-Coinbase case, non profits require an unhindered payment processing system. This is extremely important for non profits who operate in sensitive areas such as WikiLeaks , UNICEF etc. They also require transparency about the donations that they receive worldwide. Request Network also claims to provide lower transaction costs and faster processing speeds. The integration of an accounting system also provides added value to the user.
WooCommerce Plugin
WooCommerce is one of the largest ecommerce platforms in the world. Request Network has created a WooCommerce Plugin that enables anyone to set up a Request Network payment gateway for their website. This enables a WooCommerce store to accept cryptocurrency donations with the claimed benefits of low fees and faster transaction times.
Community Efforts
What’s impressive however is that these developments were the result of a community effort.
According to the post, the introduction to the Wikimedia Foundation was facilitated by Brice S, a REQ community member.
The WooCommerce Plugin was a result of community efforts as well. Adam (AdmREQ), a developer from the Request Network Hub had created this plugin.
It is heartening to see community efforts on projects beyond currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. The crypto community has provided a level of engagement and collaboration towards projects like Request Network that previous forms of business hierarchies were only able to dream of.
UPDATE: The announcement link was changed to the original blogpost made by Request Network. An erroneous article was linked previously. The author duly regrets and apologizes for the same.
