Litecoin Core New Version 0.16.2 Released, Bug Fixes and Few Other Changes Observed
Litecoin Core (most popular Litecoin full node implementation) has released a new version of Litecoin version 0.16.2 with bug fixes, performance improvements, and few new features.
The update posted on their medium article included several changes like the removal of -blockmaxsize option which was deprecated in version 0.15.1 and now removed. with -blockmaxweight option miners can choose to limit their block weight. The same change is due in Bitcoin with the Bitcoin Core 0.17.0 version.
The article also indicated that there might be bugs even though the code has gone through heavy testing for this version. Litecoin Core is currently compatible with operating systems like Linux kernel, macOS 10.8+, and Windows Vista and is not supported by Windows XP.
Litecoin has always been ahead in implementing new features and updates to improve the network, even ahead of Bitcoin. Litecoin was the first to implement Segwit. The atomic swaps between Litecoin and Bitcoin have also been tested out by many enthusiasts. The next big thing that is being explored in both Bitcoin and Litecoin is the addition of privacy features.
Charlie Lee conducted a poll recently on Twitter regarding privacy features on Litecoin to which over 9600 participants voted, a majority of 44% opted for confidential transactions out of the four options which included ZK-Snarks MimbleWimble, 22% of participants preferred no privacy feature at all. Confidential transactions would essentially solve the privacy and fungibility problems in the network.
Recently the Litecoin network received Casa Lightning Node support, the lightning network has been endorsed by Charlie Lee and is being tested on the Litecoin network.
Charlie Lee Tweeted:
Fungibility is the one and only feature of sound money missing from Bitcoin and Litecoin. Do you support adding a privacy feature to Litecoin? If so, which do you prefer and why?
