Scrabble adds Bitcoin to its Official Dictionary
Scrabble players are in for a treat with more than 300 words including Bitcoin being added to the game with its first update in over 4 years. It’s been officially added to the Merriam-Webster Scrabble dictionary which is the go-t0 source for Scrabble players. The word is worth 11 points on Scrabble.
Bitcoin gained mainstream acceptance after its bull run last year that put its value just short of $20,000. Words like Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, Bitcoin and maybe even Ethereum became household terms that were being covered extensively across social media sites and News channels.
The Merriam-Webster defines Bitcoin as follows:
- a digital currency created for use in peer-to-peer online transactions
- a unit of this currency
Bitcoin now has come a long way and with this news has been given a badge of approval being recognized as an important technological revelation.
A Redditor commented:
That’s it. We’ve done it. Adoption complete.
Another Redditor pointed out that the next word to be added to the dictionary should be ‘HODL’ which has become the most famous Jargon in the Crypto community.
Blockmanity’s Take
On a lighter note, this is welcome news for Bitcoin being recognized by the Scrabble dictionary. We just hope Bitcoin fulfills its destined technological revolution and is recognized for its utility rather than a board game.
