Tron’s Justin Sun announces BitTorrent’s next big project, plans to take on IPFS and Storj
Justin Sun, the founder of Tron has announced the next big project for BitTorrent – The BitTorrent Filesystem (BTFS). BTFS is a distributed file storage which will allow people to store files in a distributed manner. Current projects in the space include IPFS and Storj.
According to the Medium post published by Tron, BTFS is initially going to be a fork an IPFS. As time progresses further improvements will be made and BTFS would be merged with the existing BitTorrent protocol. That means BTFS would be used for storing the data while BitTorrent network will be used to serve data.
The medium post also outlines the five essential components of the BTFS ecosystem – BTFS network, TRON network, BitTorrent network, TronGrid service, and BTT. Justin Sun has also started the marketing of BTFS with firing a comparison of BTFS with IPFS on Twitter.
