One of the most anticipated Mainnet launches along with EOS is the Tron Mainnet launch. The Mainnet of Tron called the Odyssey 2.0 went live at 12 AM UTC on May 31st.
Justin Sun, Founder of Tron Tweeted following the launch:
Mainnet Odyssey 2.0 is live! #TRON is now in consensus phase, where we will work together with community developers and exchanges to pave the way towards TRON Independence Day! $TRX #TRX

Sun also Tweeted a picture of NASDAQ in Times Square, New York showing Tron with the tagline “Blockchain to the Power of Tron”.
Sun calls the day of the Mainnet launch(June 25) as the independence day for Tron. The Mainnet will be in the Beta stage in the month of June until June 25th after which the TRX token won’t be an ERC 20 Token anymore and will have its own independent Tron Blockchain.

Sun also called Tron as better than Ethereum and laid down the reasons for it:
- More Transactions per second i.e 2000 in Tron Vs 25 in Ethereum
- Proper Sovereignty of the Tron token Vs Authoritarian rule of Ethereum
- Nearly 100 Million Dapp users in Tron Vs Thousands in Ethereum
- No fees in Tron Vs High Fees in Ethereum
- Coin burn (which will reduce the supply hence potentially making TRX tokens more worthy) Vs No Coin burn
- Developer Reward programs upto $2 Billion Vs no Zero
- High Scalability Vs Poor Scalability

Although these claims seem promising and are said to be internally tested they cannot be verified until the Mainnet launch happens and the Blockchain is running in the full production level.
Twitter exchanges between Sun and Vitalik had happened earlier in April when Sun Tweeted on how Tron is better than Ethereum and Vitalik responded criticising Sun of Plaigiarism in Tron’s whitepaper.

Although the much awaited Mainnet launch is in progress, it has not reflected in the price action on Tron. It is currently priced at $0.057. It has dropped over 4% in the past day and over 17% over the past week.
